The Junior Accountant keeps a clear picture of the company’s financial health and manages daily accounting and finance requirements. As part of the amazing finance team, the individual handles the full cycle accounting, reconciliation, financial analysis, and all day-to-day transactions. What you will be doing

  • Manage our Vendor Payable Process - You will need to ensure all bills received are approved by the appropriate manager, entered into our accounting system, and booked to the appropriate GL. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the bills are paid out on a timely basis. Finally, you will ensure the payments are then reconciled in our accounting system against the corresponding bills.
  • Manage our Expense Reimbursement Process - Review employee expense reports in our expense management system, ensuring all reports are correctly coded and have sufficient back-up. Ensure expense reports are automatically exported to our accounting system and reconciled to our GL on a weekly basis. In addition, you will also have the responsibility of training new hires on the expense submission process.
  • Prepare Bank & Credit Card Reconciliations - Monitor daily transactions on all bank accounts and credit cards. Gather the appropriate support for all transactions. Reconcile all transactions with statements on a weekly basis in our accounting system. 
  • Contribute to Month-end Close Process - Contribute meaningfully to month-end close by owning the close-out of cash, accounts payable, PPE, Prepaids and other key accounts. Provide insight to team members with regards to month over month expense variances.
  • Ad-Hoc Project Based Work – This includes but is not limited to, process improvements, providing external audit support, and getting creative with reporting requests from other departments

What you bring (Don't worry if you don't have all the experience - we are really looking for capability)

  • Enrolled or is in the process of enrolling in the CPA Program
  • 1-2  years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a tech or fast-growing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and an ability to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Experience using Excel at an intermediate level, with motivation to improve
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • You are a self-starter, looking to be in a high-growth environment with opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Experience with NetSuite (Accounting System) and/or Expensify (Expense Management System)

Shezal Lalani, Manager of Reporting (she/her): Shezal, the hiring manager,  joined Kira Systems in 2019 as a Senior Financial Analyst on the Finance Team (#spreadsheetsquad, best team at Kira!). Since then, Shezal has progressed into a manager role, leading a team of superstar accountants through their first financial year end audit, a new accounting ERP system implementation, routine internal reporting activities (Month-End Close & Quarter End Board Reporting), day-to-day financial operations & analysis, and anything else that comes their way to support the rest of the company!

Maddy Caccavelli, Senior Accountant (she/her): Maddy joined Kira Systems in 2018 and started as a Junior Accountant. Since then Maddy has received her CPA designation as well as taken on a more leadership role of Senior Accountant on the Finance team.
